Identity leftism in the west can be boiled down, more or less, as opposition to anything seen as normative or traditionally desirable – whiteness, maleness, straightness, and middle-class identity first and foremost, but more broadly things like nuclear families, monogamy, thinness, lack of disability, probably even tallness. I think even the “aggravated aspie” movement online can be traced to the same place, as it’s essentially people who are asking not to be judged as social retards because they were “born that way.'
